Inspired and named for an early Kurdish feminist, Hapsa Xan who is seen by many as the one who started the enlightenment movement for Kurdish women. She is believed to have been the first woman in Slemani to stress the importance of education for women as a means to gain freedom. She also founded what is considered to be the first Kurdish women's organization in Kurdistan and pursued an agenda for the progression of Kurdish women, especially in gaining access to literacy and education.
